At the beginning of the season, a few of our Board members felt our giveaway days would not be utilized by the wealthy residents of Hunterdon County. They were wrong.

Our committment to the community was we would not deny assistance based on income. We stand firmly by that decision.

At the close of the 2010 season, we decided to make a bigger investment of purchasing more tuxedos and accessories. It was foreseeable that we could help more young men if we increased our stock. That decision turned out to be priceless. In fact, we donated more tuxedos than prom gowns this year.

We began the season in April with approximately 50 tuxedos. By May, we had to purchase another 50 to complete the remainder of the season. In June, we purchased the remaining stock from a retired business owner.

My husband agreed that our most rewarding experience was in Phillipsburg working the the students from the P.A.S.S. program. Many of the students did not have the resources to purchase their prom tickets and purchase or rent promwear. One of the students had to sell his cell phone in order to purchase tickets for the prom. I was so thankful that we were able to help that young man fulfill his dream. We were happy to help all the students.

When we arrived at the school, the students assisted us in setting up. It was fun and games when the setup was finished. The students picked out their tuxedos, shirts, vests, ties and shoes. They modeled for each other and their dates, shades on, shades off, jackets open, jackets closed, vest on, vest off. They were GQ sharp!

The community response was tremendous. Everyone likes to get something for free, regardless of income. This past season, we served the wealthy and the poor and we treated them with respect. They were wrong and I'm so glad they were wrong.
